Our Story

Little Mycelium began with a simple question:

In a forest, the most important work happens beneath the surface. Hidden beneath our feet is a vast network of mycelium, quietly connecting trees, sharing nutrients, supporting growth, and helping the entire ecosystem thrive.

Children aren’t so different.

The strongest learning doesn’t begin with worksheets or perfectly planned activities. It begins with relationships. With trust. With curiosity. With play. With adults who slow down enough to truly notice.

As an early childhood educator, I’ve spent years watching children teach us who they are when we give them the time, space, and respect to do so. Some of the most meaningful learning I’ve witnessed never appeared in a lesson plan. It happened during muddy puddles, loose parts, difficult emotions, tiny discoveries, and everyday conversations.

Those moments changed the way I saw education.

Little Mycelium was created as a place to explore childhood through a different lens; one rooted in connections, reflections, research, and real-life practice.

Mycelium reminds us that growth isn't always visible.

The strongest foundations often develop quietly.

Children are constantly building confidence, relationships, language, identity, and understanding—even when we can't immediately see it.

Like mycelium connecting an entire forest underground, caring relationships connect children to their families, communities, environments, and futures.

Little Mycelium exists to celebrate those unseen connections.

Because when we nurture the roots, everything above the surface has the opportunity to flourish.

Hi, I'm Jess.

I'm a Registered Early Childhood Educator from Ontario with a deep love for play, child development, nature, and the everyday moments that shape childhood.

I'm endlessly curious about how children learn, how educators grow, and how we can create environments where everyone feels seen, capable, and connected.

This space is part journal, part resource library, part conversation, and part gentle reminder that meaningful learning doesn't have to be loud.
